Elevating Content with Precision and Expertise
April’s work is defined by her high standards for personal performance and her ability to draw on experience to solve problems. Throughout her career as a freelance proofreader and copywriter and in her previous roles at some of the largest marketing firms in the Midwest, she has collaborated with businesses, ad agencies, and nonprofits to develop strategic and creative deliverables.
April’s proofreading expertise is essential in highly technical, regulated, and sensitive fields. For example, she proofread a series of workbooks for an organization that creates curriculum for addiction treatment and justice services agencies. In this role, she corrected an average of 96 errors per 5,000-word piece, ensuring accuracy in materials trusted by over 5,000 organizations nationwide.
In the copywriting arena, April helped a major tool company with a significant launch. She came up with the concept and wrote copy for the entire campaign, including print ads, videos, and event collateral. The campaign's success was notable: It won a gold Addy, and demand for the tool exceeded supply by six months.

April’s passion for community flows beyond her work. You’ll find her volunteering with a local ballet academy that serves underrepresented communities, helping with after-school programs, and running her small business, Popinjay Press. Using the marketing skills developed throughout her career, she writes, illustrates, and publishes diverse and inclusive children’s books that can be customized to represent unique family dynamics. She sees this as the perfect culmination of her love for art and literature, her passion for social justice, and her experience in communications. In her own words, “If the work I do helps even one child feel more secure, then I’m doing the right thing.”
